For years Udi Edni made television look extraordinary, as an award-winning Flame artist and visual effects designer for HBO, BBC America and ABC. In 1998, in a small SoHo studio, he painted a white canvas as a gift for a friend. It became ‘White Dinner’, and the beginning of The White One.
Israeli-born and film-school trained, he came to painting with no formal background in fine art, only a designer’s eye and a passion for large canvases.
“I approach fine art from a design standpoint. I try to make my paintings not only beautiful and stand out, but also able to complement what people already have on their walls.”
In The White One he returns to the basics. The canvas is negative space, a frame for personal and found objects. Utilitarian or decorative, personal or organic, each is surrounded by nothing and by everything.
